Continuing where it left off in 2014, the Commission on Population-CAR together with its partners from the local government units (LGU) and civil society organizations (CSO) has pushed to bring its Adolescent Health and Youth Development (AHYD) Program to even more youth in the Cordilleras. For this year, the Regional Population Office has exceeded last year’s accomplishment in implementing the U4U Teen Trail in 2015 by covering 4,120 teens all across the region from January 2015 up to November 2015.
This year, the Regional Population Office has devolved the U4U Teen Trail to its partners and allowed more trainers available on the field to teach teens on facilitation and conducting the activity. After a Training of Trainers on Teen Facilitation in October 2014, each province and city in the region has its own pool of trainers to deliver the module to in school and even out of school youth.
With this, the U4U Teen Trail has trained 475 Teen Facilitators in Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Baguio City, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province and Tabuk City. These teen facilitators have also assisted and interacted with 3,645 participating teens in 25 Teen Trails conducted within 2015. This exceeded 2014’s accomplishment of 1,885 participants and 270 trained facilitators in just 10 U4U Teen Trails.
PopCom-CAR is also aiming to institutionalize the U4U Teen Trail as part of the regular Academic year in Public Schools in the region. The RPO-CAR has already started by conducting a Training of Department of Education staff in Kalinga in cooperation with the DepEd Kalinga Division office. The RPO plans to conduct more trainings for DepEd Division Offices in 2016.
Aiming to reduce teen pregnancies and improve awareness in preventing STI/HIV, the activity brought teens from around the municipality to learn on key concepts and mes sages through the facilitation of trained teens also from the area. The U4U Teen Trail is part of the ongoing 101XSX: 101 Ways to Become empowered youth campaign of the Commission on Population-Cordillera Administrative Region.
