In celebration of World Vasectomy Day every 20th of November of the year, the Baguio City Health Services Office offered free Non-Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV) services on November 22-25, 2021. With effective advocacy and promotion, 49 Baguio and Benguet men have expressed interest to undergo NSV at the Baguio City Health Department, as a permanent option of family planning.
NSV is a painless and effective family planning method that only puts a tiny hole in the scrotum to tie and cut the vas deferens — the tube that carries sperm out of the body. The procedure involves no incision, won’t hurt masculinity and makes you enjoy intimate moments with no fear for unwanted pregnancy.
John Carlo Hije, 26-year-old resident of Baguio City, was the first to undergo the procedure on November 22, 2021. He said that vasectomy has long health advantages not only for him but also for his partner who was the only one using contraceptives before he had the procedure.
“Compared to other forms of birth control, NSV provides lower cost in the long run, lower health risk and is more reliable in prevention of unplanned pregnancy. Through this, my family and I can enjoy more freedom at an early age with lesser financial burden because raising a family is very difficult, especially in providing essential needs”, he added.
Hije encourages other men who are interested to undergo NSV because of its many advantages. He assures that everything will be taken care of in the process. Necessary physiological, mental and psychological preparations and assistance are provided before the operation and for better decision making.
For the World Vasectomy Day celebration, all successful NSV clients received Php 1000.00 cash or gift check, a t-shirt from POPCOM-CAR and an additional Php 300.00 will be given for referrals. It is open for walk-in clients until November 26, 2021 at the Baguio City Health Services Office located at T. Alonzo Street, Baguio City.
The activity is led by the Baguio City Health Services Office, the Department of Health -Cordillera Administrative Region, and DKT Philippines, a registered, non-profit organization founded in 1989 to focus the power of social marketing on some of the largest countries with the greatest needs for family planning and HIV/AIDS prevention. ##
